The Curse of Interesting Times

There’s no doubt that the world today is going to get interesting. Times like these might be more fascinating to read about in the history books, but no one wants to live through them. I remember being twelve and wanting to live during the tough times that try men’s metal. A dozen years later and my feelings are a good bit different. There’s so much I want to do and see. I have a wife to provide for and hopefully Children to raise. No one can deny craziness is looming. The rise of tyranny and the quivers of economic destruction are obvious. The fall won’t be pretty. Most of the goods we all rely on are trucked in from other states or even countries. A break down in any one of these major chains and our frail civilization crashes. We saw the results just from the COVID scare. No one knows what the future will look like, but at least for a time things will get ugly.

What to do? I am by no means an expert, but here’s a few things I’m trying to get in place. I’m just starting out, but better late than never.

1. Learn to sing the Psalms. Seriously, if things are tough and faith is running thin, being able to pray or sing devotionally the words God has given us to sing will be a great encouragement. Plus there is plenty in there about the judgment of the wicked and the coming blessing of the just.

2. Have a solid community nearby. You won’t make it alone. There must be a return to local microeconomics when the big systems fail. Someone having your back could save your life.

3. Keep some beans under the bed and some rounds in the closet.

4. Try to learn a skill that can be traded locally, like gardening, well repair, or mechanic work.

5. Get some land with means of food production as soon as possible.

And remember, God can change curses into a blessing for those that fear Him. Be prepared to rebuild Christendom.
